The new album is the indie rockers seventh studio album and was released today. Buoyed by the success of the album’s lead single ‘Innocent’, the band will be touring the record extensively, with a seven-date tour beginning in March 2010.
The Stereophonics, often nicknamed The Phonics, rose to prominence in the mid to late 1990’s, with the release of their debut album ‘Word Get’s Around’ (1997), which helped to win them a Brit award for Best Newcomer, and its successor ‘Performance and Cocktails’ (1999). ‘Performance and Cocktails’ signified the height of their fame and, generating three successive top 10 singles and going five times platinum.
In 2003 drummer Stuart Cable was sacked from the band, allegedly due to a lack of commitment, most likely due to the emergence of his television show Cable Television, which, due to his presenter commitments, caused him to miss rehearsals and gigs.
Following a line-up change and a slight dip in popularity in recent years, the band will be hoping that the new album signals a return to the form and commercial success that was so apparent for them in the early years of their career.
