Outcast to remade Cab Calloway’s ‘Minnie the Moocher’ single
10 May 2006
Outkast remade Cab Colloway’s original song Minnie the Moocher for their single Mighty O.
In his original song, Calloway had his famous yell, “Hi-de-hi-de-hi-di-hi! Ho-de-ho-de-ho-de-ho!” But Andre 3000 and his band had their own version of the yell, which went something like, “Mighty-I-de-I-de-I/ O-de-o-de-o-de-o”.
This is the only time that Outkast vocalist Andre sang on the entire record. Throughout most of the songs in the album, Andre just rapped and spoke.
He also sang in the aforementioned song: “You ain't a hater? / Can't tell /. Either wish me well, go to hell or go to Yale / Study human behavior/ So you know who the hell you dealing with”.
Big Boi made the second voice, which was equally aggressive as Andre while singing “Slam your back to the curb, bruh, like sanitation workers/ 'Cause you're trash”.
“That n---a the B.I.G. go hard every time. Dungeon Family and biological intact/ Talk bad about the fam, catch diabolical attacks”.
Furthermore, the sounds of the beat, including the base and the drums, sounded authentic and resonated well, as if it were created during a live performance. The said song was also reminiscent of the ragtime era during the 1950s.
According to representatives of Outkast, the band will be making a music video tomorrow, entitled Mighty O. It is set to come out on August 22, but was slated to hit the theatres on August 25.
